Marci, Survivor
When I was first diagnosed, the way I was diagnosed was that I found a lump myself and went to my doctor. Initially I was just very concerned about what was going to happen to me—obviously, this was something I had never gone through before. I had consulted with various physicians, and ended up having a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. And before I started chemotherapy, I spoke with a fertility physician about what consequences might happen to my future fertility. I was in treatment for infertility at the time, and so I already had some connections and had some testing before my cancer diagnosis, and I think that actually helped me maybe to ask a few questions that I might not have otherwise thought about, or at least to get me into the system and get things moving.
