Selecting donor sperm is an interesting prospect for people. There are literally catalogs, or books, which couples look through, and the effort is to try to link up the patient’s physical and often ethnic or racial background with the prospective donors. Most of the time there are not photos available, but there’ll be pretty specific descriptions of the donor’s background, and the idea is that patients will often try to link these up so physically, and from a racial or ethnic background, the person who is providing the donor sperm is linked or matched pretty well with the recipient couple. While it may seem a little bit strange or awkward, these catalogs actually serve a very important role and allow couples to really pinpoint the donor that they want to match them with their own needs and their own personal background.
